Some Types of Meditation

Mindfulness Meditation

You focus on the present moment, usually by noticing your breath, body, thoughts, and feelings without judging them.

Guided Meditation

A teacher, recording, or app talks you through the meditation. This may include breathing, visualisation, body awareness, or relaxation.

Visualisation Meditation

You imagine a peaceful place, healing light, a goal, or a calming image. This is often used for relaxation and confidence-building.

Breathing Meditation

You concentrate mainly on your breathing. This is one of the simplest forms and is often used for relaxation and stress reduction.

Body Scan Meditation

You slowly move your attention through different parts of your body, noticing tension, sensations, or relaxation.

Movement Meditation

Engage in the harmonious blend of mindful motion. Explore the elegance of practices such as flowing yoga, graceful tai chi, and rhythmic walking meditation that unite body and mind in a dance of serenity.

Mantra Meditation

You repeat a word, phrase, or sound to help focus the mind. Some people use traditional mantras; others use simple phrases like “calm” or “let go”.

Zen Meditation

Also called zazen. This usually involves sitting still, watching the breath, and observing thoughts without following them.
